Getting it Done... MC/FPL Chilled Water Plant

Project Description

NDC Construction Company contracted with B&I Contractors to construct a 7,220 SF building shell for the Manatee County District Cooling Plant. The project provides chilled water to various public and private facilities located in downtown Bradenton. The end goal is to help save County resources by reducing maintenance costs, increasing energy efficiency and decreasing the County’s carbon footprint. The sale of chilled water to private buildings will also generate revenue for Manatee County.

NDC is responsible for the building shell, interior and exterior finishes and development of the site with City provided utilities. The structure is made up of load-bearing masonry walls with cast-in-place beams and columns, hollow-core plank for the mechanical deck, and interior structural support steel. Large, glass overhead doors will provide an unobstructed view of the interior mechanical equipment, which will be painted to enhance the building’s aesthetic quality. The cooling towers will be screened with custom aluminum panels that will also act as hurricane protection.
